Following an attack on Guinea-Bissau's military headquarters, which killed the Armed Forces Chief of Staff, the country's President, Joao Bernardo Vieira, was assassinated.
A number of sources have covered the story:
BBC Africa has a story on that attack, "Guinea-Bissau President Shot Dead," and another on the current state of affairs in Bissau, "I Saw Bissau Rocket Attack."
CNN also has a story - "President of Guinea-Bissau Assassinated."
The Los Angeles Times and the Washington Post are still relying on an AP story, but the New York Times has started its coverage, "President of Guinea-Bissau Said to Be Killed by Soldiers."
The Christian Science Monitor also has an interesting story, "Guinea-Bissau Assassinations: Is Colombia's Drug Trade Behind Them?", linking the attack and assassination to Guinea-Bissau's role in the drug trade between Latin America and Europe.
